Marquis Broadcast Ltd has experienced an explosion in the use of Medway worldwide receiving some very significant orders in the last six months and we look forward to providing further details of these later in the year.

Broadcast have recently welcomed the addition of Jason Danielson to our Sales Operation in North America, to support the growth and development of the newly released products Parking, Bridging and Partial File Retrieval. Formerly with SGI and more recently Omneon, Danielson brings a wealth of experience in Product Management, with extensive background in digital media production and distribution systems for broadcast and post production.

As we approach a season of Broadcast Trade Shows, Roger Bowley will be available throughout CABSAT 2010 to discuss any media integration requirements you might have.

Marquis Consulting LLP continues both to evolve and grow, as we seek to expand our portfolio of clients and address their requirements for an ever-widening range of services.

It’s been an active quarter for Consulting which has undertaken a major consultancy assignment for Satellite Information Services (SIS) as part of a channel expansion programme for SIS's broadcast facility in Milton Keynes, whilst continuing to service clients as far afield as Dubai and Auckland.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of the newest Partner to the Consulting team, Bill Connolly, who brings over 30 years of experience in the broadcast, cable, satellite and television industries to Marquis Consulting.

Finally, Marquis Consulting will be holding private meetings at the Dubai World Trade Centre during CABSAT 2010. Both Managing Partners Bob Gentry and Peter Davies will be available for meetings throughout the duration of the show.

New Product - Partial File Retrieval (PFR)

In collaboration with Quantum, Marquis have helped develop a new feature Partial File Retrieval (PFR) for the latest release of Quantum's StorNext data management software.

StorNext 4.0 features timecode-based Partial File Retrieval (PFR) which streamlines workflows in media asset management applications so that segments of large media files - rather than the entire file - can be quickly retrieved and utilized based on timecode parameters.

Broadcasters and Post facilities work daily with extensive archived material in which specific sections need extracting for re-use. Some straightforward examples being: ‘highlight’ extracts from long form content (such as sports games and political speeches), trailers from feature length movies and the creation of compilation packages

The process of re-editing or responding quickly to news with archive footage can be a very time consuming process. Not only in sourcing the relevant material but frequently also the lengthy transfer of the original footage, in order that sequence selection can take place.

StorNext’s Partial File Retrieval (PFR) enables operational staff to simply and easily retrieve selected material from archive storage, including data tape, into online storage, for editing or other production needs.

By only selecting the required footage to be retrieved from the archive tape significantly speeds up the whole process and minimises storage requirements. (...)

Case Study - YLE, Finland

Yleisradio Oy (YLE), Finland's national public service broadcasting company, has completed implementation of an enterprise-wide unified asset management and workflow system to improve the internal management and accessibility of its vast amount of video content.

The primary role of Medway within the overall project is to enable seamless integration between the METRO archive/storage locations managed by Media Archive and YLE's Avid ISIS Interplay and editing systems. Integration between the systems makes use of the Medway/Avid Interplay web services API. Key to the success of the project is Medway's unique approach to metadata management.

Marquis Broadcast and Tyrell CCT have signed a partnership agreement enabling them to work together to integrate Marquis' Medway media transfer and format conversion software with a range of file-based broadcast and post production systems.

Tyrell CCT recently showcased Medway at BVE 2010 to demonstrate the ease with which media can be moved efficiently and seamlessly between systems from different manufacturers. Medway creates powerful workflows and metadata integration between Avid editing systems, Interplay, Final Cut Pro and other file based production systems including Isilon storage systems and Grab Networks.

"By integrating Medway with a range of broadcasting and digital post applications, customers have more flexibility in their digital processes to use best of breed systems in the knowledge that they will work together in a highly efficient and reliable environment irrespective of file formats and system architectures," said Nick Soper, Technical Director UK, Tyrell CCT.
